EDP, SPECIAL STUDENT SERVICES, ENRICHMENT ACTIVITIES, AND SPORTS

August 16, 2021

Dear PFGA Family,

Before getting into today’s message, I wanted to let everyone know that I’m making a change to the announcement schedule. On the docket for today are the arrival, dismissal, and EDP procedures. However, there are still a few key details around the arrival and dismissal procedures that need to be worked out, so I am putting that on hold until tomorrow.

Today, instead of the arrival and dismissal procedures, I will be covering the extended day program (EDP), student services after-school extracurricular activities, and sports. I am so sorry for any inconvenience that this may have caused you.

Extended Day Program

 PFGA Extended Day Program: Hours of Operation MondayTuesdayWednesdayThursdayFridayMorning6:30 - 7:456:30 - 7:456:30 - 7:456:30 - 7:456:30 - 7:45Afternoon3:00 - 6:003:00 - 6:002:00 - 6:00*3:00 - 6:003:00 - 6:00*School is dismissed at 2:00 for teacher professional development and staff meetings

This year, the EDP department at PFGA will continue with the same hours of operation as we have in the past. Morning EDP will run from 6:30 to 8:00.  After 7:45, students will no longer be admitted into EDP. So, if you plan on utilizing our morning EDP services, please make sure that you have your student(s) in EDP by 7:45.

Our afternoon hours will be much like last year, with one very notable change. As communicated last week, I have decided to move our teacher professional development/meeting day from Tuesday to Wednesday. I believe this change will help us to better maximize our daily instructional time and will provide the children with a more balanced and less interrupted weekly schedule. This change means that Wednesday will now be the day that hours of operation are from 2:00 to 6:00. For every other day of the week, our afternoon EDP will be open from 3:00 to 6:00.

We will once again be using the reservation system for EDP. Just like last year, a Google Doc schedule link will be released every Friday at noon, before the start of the next week. Through that link, just indicate the days and times that you would like to use our service, and you are all set.

It is very important to complete the reservation form if you plan to send your child to extended care. We staff our EDP based on the number of reservations we receive every week and knowing how many kids we are going to have every day will help us ensure that everyone is kept as safe as safely possible. That said, I do completely understand that sometimes emergencies happen, and on those occasions, we are always more than happy to help.

Also, a reminder that students are prohibited from using cellphones in EDP. We will have both Chromebooks and iPads available in EDP for students to use, should they need a device.

Finally, if you have any questions, comments, or concerns about EDP, please contact our EDP Director, Julie Molenda, at jmolenda@pfgacademy.org.

Specialized Student Services

I am happy to report that this year, our service partners will be on-site, and again will be able to provide services for qualifying students at PFGA. These services include Title 1 Reading and Math support from Innovative Scholars, Academic Counseling through Cornerstone Counseling, Speech Therapy with Communication Clubhouse, IDEA services via Catapult Learning, and ABA Therapy by way of LEARN.

Although PFGA is always happy to help facilitate outside support for our students, we do not allow any of our students to be pulled out of core classes. We value our partners, but we place a higher priority on our instructional practices at PFGA.

Furthermore, if your child qualifies for services, but you are not happy with the services rendered by our partners please let us know immediately. You have no obligation to continue any services that you do not want your child to receive, so please let us know if there is any issue at all. We are here to advocate for you and your child and will always do so to the best of our ability.

Enrichment Activities

We are extremely happy to announce that this school year, in-person enrichment activities will again be offered at PFGA, by outside providers, as well as by our staff. We have not yet finalized what will be offered but expect that it will be similar to what has been offered in the past (band, drama, chess, coding, karate, academic tutoring, etc…) There are also plans to include additional enrichment opportunities that are new to PFGA. More information on those opportunities to come.

Sports

Finally, sports are returning to PFGA! We hope to offer the same sports that we have in the past, but this will be contingent on parental support and student interest. Right now, Soccer and Cross Country are underway, with Basketball and Volleyball just around the corner. Check The Howler for updates on our sports program, and if you are interested in coaching or volunteering, please contact our Athletic Director, Patty Cook at pattymcgr1@gmail.com.

Take care and God bless,

Eli (Principal Argamaso)
